“I venture to Greenpoint to meet Alex on a Monday afternoon…
I gasp out loud and make some silly exclamation when I discover his bedroom wall collage of 35mm prints. I’m a fan. There is something distinctly overlapping in our documentary style.
I ask to borrow a white t-shirt and make myself comfortable in my favorite underwear, a ridiculously old Victoria’s Secret cotton thong in cheetah print. His roommate Moto offers the use of his bedroom window and a couple Camel Crush cigarettes.
Alex asks if I have any ginger friends and can I please introduce them so he can photograph them. I do. I smoke the Camels and read the teachings of Hermes from the pages of The Kybalion.
We laugh at the normalcy of hanging out half dressed, discussing life philosophy. “Do you always go this deep?” he asks.
I ask if I can smoke some weed. Alex asks if it will make me all “squinty eyed.”
We carry on for hours like old friends. I take some selfies. We say our goodbyes.
I forget my book upstairs.”
